NCSG Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Title IX
North Carolina Senior Games is honored to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Title IX during the month of June. There have been an incredible number of influential, powerful women in our organization's history - women who have shaped this program from its earliest days until today. A number of these important women have offered their insightful reflections on the power of Title IX.
“In Senior Games, one of my absolute greatest joys of all these years has been to see women fulfill their dream. Playing on a softball team, on a basketball team, competing in table tennis or cornhole. Something many of them never had a chance to do.” - Alice Keene
“You know, we are very grateful and happy that Title IX did come about but it was needed for many, many years before that.” - Judy Barton
“No doubt, the opportunities given to young women to play sports at the college level have produced healthy, active older women who have participated in Senior Games.” - Beth Wilson
“I am so thankful for those female Pioneers who helped bring about our North Carolina Senior Games. Title IX gave them the opportunities necessary to become the awesome women they are!” - Karen Isbell
“Title IX is an exceptionally good act, and I'm so glad that it is here, but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.” - Louise Gooche
“As someone who has lived through the whole thing, my personal life and professional life have all been around diversity and equity in sport. On the one hand, I am so grateful we have Title IX, and on the other hand, we have so far to go.” - Nance Mize
